Who said boxing was dead?

With a slow weekend of MMA, my focus this week turns to boxing where even when the UFC had a couple of events this month, boxing stood strong and shined brightly. With four weekends in a row of exciting high profile fights, boxing has proven it still has a lot of fight left in it. Who said boxing was dead?

Last night's exciting bout between WBA/WBO lightweight (135 lbs.) champion Juan Manuel Marquez (52-5, 8 KO's) and dangerous Michael Katsidis (27-3, 22 KO's), where Marquez won via a ninth round TKO, was just the latest in a month that has brought us many boxing thrills.

It all started on November 6, when Marquez's younger brother Rafael, he himself a former multi-weight champion, stepped up in weight and competition to challenge WBO featherweight (126 lbs.) champion Juan Manuel Lopez. The result, an action packed eight round war that finally took its toll on the younger Marquez who couldn't answer the bell for the ninth round. That fight was also the latest installment in the famed Mexican-Puerto Rican rivalry in boxing.

The following weekend on November 13, it was the return of arguably the best pound for pound fighter in the world and easily the sports most marketable and recognized figure Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao. I only say "arguably the best pound or pound" because of the great Floyd 'Money' Mayweather. However, with Mayweather's inactivity, it's becoming increasingly difficult for him to lay any claim to that title.

Regardless, Pacquiao stepped up to the plate once again, taking on a larger opponent in former multi-weight champion Antonio Margarito. Fighting for a record eighth title in a different weight class, albeit both fighters were considerably under the light middleweight limit of 154 lbs., Pacquiao once again showed his dominance as he pummeled Margarito over twelve rounds. At that moment, there was no question that the big money draw in boxing right now is Pacquiao; thus the reason the last couple of weekends were to answer who would or could be next for the Pacman?

Last weekend it was another 'catchweight' fight, this time in the middleweight (160 lbs.) division, between WBC/WBO middleweight champion Sergio 'Maravilla' Martinez and former multi-weight champion Paul 'The Punisher' Williams. Ironically, for Williams, Martinez finished him in devastating fashion with a "punishing" one-punch knockout in the second round. That one punch, not only redeemed Martinez for a questionable split-decision loss to Williams one year earlier, but posed the question, "is he too big to fight Manny Pacquiao?"

While he was not opposed to the idea, even Martinez admitted, it would have to be at a weight probably not commensurate for Pacquiao to even consider; which brings us to last night's Marquez/Katsidis fight. With Marquez's convincing finish, although he was dropped in the third round by a Katsidis punch, it looks like a possible third fight between he and the Pacman may be the next logical step.

The first two fights were legendary, the first ending in a draw and the second in a disputed split decision win for Pacquiao. While those fights were fought at super featherweight (130 lbs.), both men are older and larger now. Marquez went up to welterweight (147 lbs.) to fight Mayweather and was no match for 'Money', especially at that weight. Also, Pacquiao admitted that in his win over Margarito he may have gone as high as he can go as far as challenging himself against larger opponents. Thus, at super lightweight/junior welterweight (140 lbs.) the fight would be a perfect match for both.

While those name fighters jockey for position against the cash cow Pacquiao, there are young stars in boxing such as welterweight champion Andre Berto (27-0, 21 KO's) and junior welterweight champion Amir 'King' Khan (23-1, 17 KO's), who are also trying to make their way towards the pound for pound best. Berto showed himself last night in a first round destruction of a game, but over matched Freddy Hernandez and Khan will display his skills in two weeks when he is featured on HBO against contender Marcos Maidana.

Whatever the case, boxing has come on strong at the end of this year as we head into 2011. My only concern is whether or not it can, or more importantly, will sustain this momentum heading into the New Year. Boxing has shown a propensity in the last few years, especially in the wake of MMA's emergence, to disappear and fall short of the call for meaningful fights. They are finally answering that call and doing it in a big and positive way; let's hope it continues. Who said boxing was dead?

Gnomo aterrorizante: Verdade ou Fake ?

imagem

O modelo LP560-4 Coupe do luxuoso esportivo custa US$198 mil nos Estados Unidos.

Boa leitura!

Three Basic Teaching Tips

In my estimation, teaching is probably the most important job there is. This is a bold claim, as all jobs form the social structure that makes life possible, and like the food chain, each effects the others. However, without the proper knowledge, nothing can be accomplished as you can only act with constructive purpose by following your mind's recognition of how to complete a task. Therefor, all tasks, mental or physical (other than instinctual needs and reactions) must be learned, and some of us help others learn as our livelihood: it's called teaching. Although the saying goes that "those who can't do, teach", it is more probable that "those who teach, can do anything". You see, spouting off information is merely talking. Helping someone understand that information, how it applies to them, appreciate it as a fascinating subject, become inspired to master it and therefor, master their own will, and show them how to accomplish this...this is called teaching. I have met very few people who I would say are great teachers. Having been a teacher of all grade levels, even college aged students, since the age of fifteen, there are quite a few principles I've picked up on concerning this intricate art. Here are three of the most basic, and therefor, most important principles I've learned over the years.

(1) Teaching Is the Art of Simplification. This was my first lesson on teaching, courtesy of my friend and only martial arts instructor, Joel Puryear. Most teachers make little or no effort to break down the material they are teaching, to make it more accessible to the average person. Some teachers even strive to complicate material in a hidden effort to feed their ego as one of the few people able to interpret or understand the given information. This is a byproduct of one's insecurity and a guarantee that no one will be learning much in that class. A good teacher takes information and simplifies it. You should not want your instructional material to be difficult as this is only a sign that you are unable to explain it to your students. This does not mean your material won't take a sufficient amount of hard work on the students part. Executing a well timed counter side kick, working out an algebraic equation, and mastering impressionistic painting are all skills that will take many hours of dedication. Simplification means that a teacher helps the student to better understand the concept behind the skill. Teachers should find simple formulas for explaining information rather than trying to come up with something on the spot. One of the best methods of simplification is to relate a process to something in everyday life a student can relate to. Make simple analogies. Teachers should also give several examples of each concept they are trying to convey. For instance, if you are teaching indirect angular attacks, show the student several different executions of this strategy. Show them how to gain distance and time with the shoulder fake and then execute the side kick underneath. Then show them how to fake a side kick and come over the top with a backfist. Giving several examples will allow students to find the similarities between each one and then identify the concept. It's always inspiring to watch that moment when it clicks, when the student realizes how simple it actually is. Enjoy these moments, it means you are doing your job right. It is an accomplishment on everyone's part when student proclaims, "Oh, that was easy!"

(2) Be A Principle Centered Instructor. A rule says "don't do this" whereas a principle says "this works and always has". I do not believe in "rules" in the application martial arts (or many other subjects) because their are simply too many variables in every situation. When I'm teaching someone, I do not focus on style, I focus on principles. Principles transcend styles and are applicable to any situation. I equate this to geometry. Euclid, the father of geometry, laid out universal principles of geometry which are always applicable, transcending all types of geometry and all geometric problems. For example, a straight line is always the shortest distance between two points. There are no exceptions. This is also one of the universal principles of martial arts: the shortest distance between a weapon and a target is a straight line. It doesn't matter if you are a Karateka, Judoka, or boxer, a straight line is always the shortest distance between two points. The principle transcends each style and remains universally applicable. Another, and more technically advanced, principle would be controlling your opponent's set point. This is essentially dictating how an opponent is positioned in relation to you and how to keep him from finding his distance, alignment, and defensive posture. Once again, it does not matter what form of fighting you study, one should always apply this in combat because it transcends both style and form. You could apply this concept to the work of a professional nutritionist. Ask a nutritionist how to lose weight and they aren't going to give you a customized diet, they are going to give you principles on weight loss: balance your diet, eat low density foods, etc. This method of instruction is important for the benefit of the students but also to the teacher, for it will not only allow you to become a more skilled instructor but will keep you in business. You will be able to reach a much wider range of students this way. Joe Lewis is a premier example of how to be a principle centered instructor. He understands, better than any teacher I have come across, how one may enhance their skill by application and mastery of principles rather than style. Another important part of being a principle centered instructor is to always inspire your students to execute with total conviction. You must also execute the instruction of your material with complete conviction. A half hearted teacher will have no hearted students. It doesn't matter what you are teaching, that will always be true. It's a universal principle.

(3) Make Learning Fun. This is one of the lost arts in the teaching world. You can't expect to keep students very long and you certainly can't expect them to learn much if they aren't having fun. This does not suggest sacrificing hard work. It suggests you get creative with how you have your students go about doing it. The first step in this process is to ignite a student's inner fire, their burning desire to learn, through the application of your material. This means you must be whole heartedly enthusiastic in your work as a teacher. This is the basis for executing the instruction of your material with conviction. Often times a student will be turned on or off to a subject, method, or technique, simply by how enthusiastic their instructor may or may not be, respectively. Bruce Lee was like this. His whole hearted enthusiasm turned many people on to methods or ideas they may not have considered otherwise. Once your students can see that you not only enjoy your given study but enjoy sharing it with them, there is a much greater appreciation among the students for your material. Another and all too overlooked tool is humor. Wildlife biologist Jeff Corwin is, in my opinion, the premier example of the mastery of this tool. Ask someone why they like Jeff Corwin and I'll bet you fifty dollars that their answer will be "Because he's hilarious". Jeff Corwin, who I have had the pleasure of meeting, understands better than anyone how to keep material that many people may consider boring (how many non-wildlife enthusiasts watched wildlife documentaries before he came along?) and show just how enjoyable it can be. He keeps the viewer constantly involved and in on the joke, laughing with him or laughing at him. Bill Wallace is the Jeff Corwin of martial arts. He is not only a master of what he does, but he uses humor as a primary method. Humor in teaching is like a carrier for a vaccine. The vaccine does the work meant to be accomplished but the carrier gets the body to receive it.

There are dozens of other important teaching principles that every instructor should know, but these three are a great starting point. Always remember that your job as a teacher has enormous consequences, good or bad, based upon how you treat this responsibility. Your goal as a teacher is simple: to help your students reach theirs. Take pride in your work and enjoy it. Do your job with effort and dignity.

Ibrahimovic's Greatest Goal

UFC 123: Guess who's back and stole the show?

Before UFC 123, I said in my preview you can "flip a coin", as that's how evenly matched the card was from top to bottom. No bigger evidence of this came than in the main event where Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson (31-8, 14 KO's 7 subs) won a highly disputed split decision over Lyoto 'The Dragon' Machida (16-2, 5 KO's 2 subs) in their light-heavyweight (205 lbs.) fight.

However, before discussing my views on the main event, I want to jump right to the co-main event, because guess who's back and stole the show? Back at welterweight (170 lbs.) and more importantly, back to his winning ways? 'The Prodigy' B.J. Penn (16-7-1, 7 KO's 6 subs) needed all of just 21 seconds to dispatch of Hall of Famer Matt Hughes (45-8, 17 KO's 18 subs) in their rubber match (pictured above) as he scored a quick, but devastating knockout.

A short right hand that Hughes never saw coming dropped the former champion and Penn followed him to the ground for a couple more before the ref jumped in to stop the assault. There was no question the stoppage was legit, as was the KO. If there was, it was answered when Hughes got up and uttered the words "what happened" to the ref.

Penn, who many people, not myself, were saying was done because of two consecutive losses to Frankie Edgar at lightweight (155 lbs.), looked inspired and motivated going into this bout. At only 31 years old, if he can sustain this enthusiasm for one more run, which he says he wants to do most likely at welterweight, things could get very interesting in an already stacked welterweight division.

How interesting; UFC President Dana White announced after the fight that Penn has already been matched up for his next fight @ UFC 127 against top contender Jon Fitch, winner of his last five in a row. That fight likely will take place in late February in Australia. With welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre set to defend against Fitch's teammate Josh Koscheck in three weeks and the winner set to face Jake Shields, all I have to say is wow!

Hughes meanwhile at 37 years old, who was on a three fight win streak before the loss and appeared to be on one final run of his own, has to now decide what the future holds for him. No fighter ever wants his or her last fight to be a loss, especially one like this, but what does he have left to prove? A two-time welterweight champion and already a UFC Hall of Famer, Hughes legacy is already cemented, whatever he decides.

Now to the main event, which had its moments of excitement, but left a lot to be desired. The fight played out the way I expected and predicted it would. Jackson the aggressor pursuing his opponent looking to deliver that one hitter-quitter power he's known for and Machida the technician, counter punching and evading as he looked for his opening.

Problem is, for Machida that is, when you fight this way and don't finish, you leave it to the judges interpretation and as we have seen many times before that can come back to haunt you. In this case it did, that is, depending on whom you talk to. Dana White thought Jackson won; however Jackson himself, as was evidenced by his reaction to the decision, didn't really echo those sentiments, as he was shocked to hear that he had won a split decision.

However, since this is my column, my opinion is the only one that matters here and I think Machida should've won a close decision. While Jackson was the aggressor during the fight, stalking someone doesn't mean anything if you're not landing anything. That is not to say that Rampage did not hit Machida throughout, but an occasional uppercut or right cross here and there should not be compared to precision striking that Machida was doing with both his hands and feet.

In the second round, Jackson was able to take Machida down, but inflicted minimal damage at best as he was unable to keep him there. Meanwhile, in the third round Machida took Jackson down, after hurting him with a quick and precise combination. Like Jackson, his punishment from the top was minimal. However, unlike Jackson he worked towards a submission, although unsuccessful.

This was MMA's version of Hagler/Leonard, the Superfight from 1987, where Sugar Ray defeated Marvelous Marvin by using quick flurries in and out, while avoiding Hagler's constant pressure throughout. Back then, the majority of judges rewarded the counter puncher; however, this time they rewarded the aggressor. I bet Hagler wishes he had these judges' 23 years ago. BTW, back then, just like last night, I scored for it Leonard as well. Regardless, it was a good night of fights and on this night, guess who came back and stole the show?

Awesome Goal...FUT!

Ok nothing to do with real football.
I decided to share one of the greatest goals I've ever scored in FIFA 11

I was playing Fifa Ultimate team and scored this magical goal against Human opposition with Gignac!

The Biggest miss in the history of football!

Eargasm of the day: Garfunkel & Oates - I Don't Understand Job

Wow...this is one of greatest videos I've seen in awhile.  These girls are so clever and witty that I found myself more and more sexually attracted to them as the song went on.  By the third chorus I was ready to take Oates to Poundtown (confession to make here; I'm not sure which one she is, but they're both hot, so I'm picking the one with the less awkward name to holler out during sex).  That being said, this goes to show that being clever, smart and well-read is sexy.  That's what I keep trying to tell girls when they stumble across my 'Twilight' collector's set on top of my Robert Pattinson comforter.  Team Edward all the way!!!

Check out the girl's other videos on funnyordie.com.  I recommend 'Sex with Ducks'.

Tvs Oled crescendo no mercado

UFC 123 Preview: Flip a Coin

Last weekend, as a combat sports fan, was one of those weekends where you considered yourself lucky to have a high profile fight in boxing along with a UFC event taking place all in the same night. Unfortunately when that happens, you are forced to choose between watching one live and the other on tape delay.

Last weekend boxing one out as the Pacquiao-Margarito fight was just too good to pass up live. Besides, UFC 122 was being shown on tape delay here in the states as a free broadcast since it took place in Germany.

Such is not the case this weekend though as UFC 123 will be on Pay-Per-View and while the rematch in boxing between Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez should be great, this UFC card is to good to pass up live. Sure there are no championship fights headlining this card and three of the four fighters in the co-main events are coming off losses, but the fights themselves are so evenly matched, including the undercard, that when it comes to picking winners at UFC 123, you can literally flip a coin.

The main event features an intriguing clash of styles between two former light-heavyweight (205 lbs.) champions in Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson (30-8, 14 KO's 7 subs) and Lyoto 'The Dragon' Machida (16-1, 5 KO's 2 subs). Rampage, an in your face, swing for the fences type of fighter with KO power in either hand, is facing his complete opposite in Machida, whose Karate based style is much more defensive, counter-punching and technique oriented.

Both coming off losses, Jackson to Rashad Evans and Machida to Shogun Rua, this is a pivotal fight for both men in their careers. Rampage is looking to rebound from that loss where many felt he showed a lot of ring rust after taking a year off to become a movie star in the remake of 'The A-Team'. Meanwhile, 'The Dragon' is looking to regain the form he seemed to have lost in his two previous fights, both against Rua, one a controversial decision win and the latter a KO loss.

An extremely difficult fight to pick, especially because one punch from Jackson can end the fight, I am going with Machida via decision. Why? As strong as Rampage is, I am just a firm believer that more often than not, technique will supersede raw power on a rampage; (pun most certainly intended). Question is, can the same be said for the co-main event?

In that fight, we have the rubber match between two former welterweight (170 lbs.) champions, Matt Hughes (45-7, 17 KO's, 18 subs) and B.J. 'The Prodigy' Penn (15-7-1, 6 KO's 6 subs). The 37-year-old Hughes has seen a resurgence in his career just when most thought it may possibly be over.

He's riding a three-fight win streak, although I wouldn't be ready to line him up for a title shot just yet. His wins include a controversial split-decision over Matt Serra, a fight I felt Serra won, and a third round TKO against an over the hill Renzo Gracie, Gracie's first fight in three years. His last fight was a first round choke out of Renzo Gracie black belt Ricardo Almeida, something I never expected and have got to give him credit for.

Penn meanwhile is coming off two decision losses in a row to his kryptonite Frankie Edgar after looking dominant in his run as lightweight (155 lbs.) champion against Diego Sanchez and Kenny Florian. Some feel Penn may have seen his better days, but that's what makes this fight so interesting.

Both fighters appear to have reached the point in their careers where the game has passed them by, thus as they were in their two previous fights, they are evenly matched. That said, I am picking Penn to come back with something to prove to not only his fans, but also himself and win this fight. I am looking at a submission victory over Hughes and one more run for Penn at a title shot, most likely back at lightweight.

A couple of quick picks on the other two big fights on the main card. First, the lightweight contender tilt between George Sotiropoulos (13-2, 1 KO 7 subs) and Joe Lauzon (19-5, 4 KO's 15 subs). Wow, what a great fight and another pick' em match-up. Both fighters are extremely well rounded and super skilled on the ground. However, Sotiropoulos is riding a seven-fight win streak and one more should most certainly garner him a title shot. Therefore, I am picking the Australian in a tough decision.

Finally, in the middleweight (185 lbs.) division, it is Gerald 'Hurricane' Harris (17-2, 8 KO's 6 subs) vs. UFC newcomer Maiquel 'Big Rig' Falcao (25-3, 21 KO's 3 subs). While Falcao is obviously a big puncher, it is his first foray into the octagon, where many a fighter's first time jitters have shown to be a problem.

Meanwhile, Harris is riding a ten-fight win streak, his last three in the UFC by KO. He was also my pick as the UFC's next generation superstar in the middleweight division in a column I wrote a couple of months ago. Therefore, I am picking Harris and predicting another KO of the night bonus for this rising young star. However, when looking back on all these fights, one thing's for sure, when it comes to UFC 123, I can flip a coin and probably do okay.

Keep Your Head Up
[1st Verse]
She’s lookin’ for a job and a finer place to stay,
She’s lookin’ for the hope in the empty promises,
She’s workin’ two jobs,
Keepin’ alive,
She works in a resturaunt night and day,
She waits her life away,
She wipes the tears away,

[Hook]
She cries inside every time she feels this way,
And she’s dying inside every time her baby cries, (No~)

[Chorus]
Keepin’ your head up to the sky,
Keepin’ your mind just stay alive,
Keepin’ your wings so we can fly,
(Keep your head up tonight)
Keepin’ your head up to the sky,
And we can just rise up tell me now,
Gimme your wings so we can fly,

[2nd Verse]
Giving up the life of the birds in the trees,
And we’re sucking up the air in the Earth from underneath,
(It’s never too late) I can’t even breathe,
(To see) I can’t even see,
(Oh keep) Keep your head up don’t give up today,
How long can we wait?
I wish that love would come today,

[Hook]
All you need is love,
Tell you I’m always coming soon,
Keep your head up,

[Repeat - Chorus]
Keepin’ your head up to the sky,
Keepin’ your mind just stay alive, (Just stay alive)
Gimme your wings so we can fly, (Fly away, fly away, fly away)
(Keep your head up tonight)
Keepin’ your head up to the sky,
And we can just rise up tell me now,
Gimme your wings so we can fly,
(Oh, why)

[Bridge]
Everybody say the time is borrowed,
And hanging down your head just ain’t no good,
And if you dance and rise above tomorrow, (Give it a chance)
Just give yourself a chance,
Find the circumstance,
Rise and do it again,

[Repeat - Chorus w/Choir]
Keepin’ your head up to the sky, (Oh God, Oh no)
Keepin’ your mind just stay alive,
Gimme your wings so we can fly, (Hoo-hoo!)
(Yeah, yeah!)

[Keep your head up!] Keepin’ your head up to the sky,
And we can just rise up tell me now, (Oh~)
Gimme your wings so we can fly, (Hoo-hoo!)

[Keep your head up!] Keepin’ your head up to the sky,
(I needed you then, I needed you now, I needed you night right through the day)
Keepin’ your mind just stay alive, (I needed you now)
Keepin’ your wings so we can fly, (Hoo-hoo!)
(Yeah!)

[Keep your head up!] Keepin’ your head up to the sky,
(I needed you then, I needed you now, I needed you night right through the day)
And we can just rise up tell me now, (I needed you now)
Gimme your wings so we can fly, (Hoo-hoo-hoo!)

[Ad-libs]
[Keep your head up!]
What about yesterday?
What about yesterday?
(Those stars gonna rise (gonna rise) today! Today!)

[Keep your head up!]
What about all their joy?
What about yesterday? (Oh~)
(Gonna shine, must fly, gonna rise (gonna rise) today! Today!)

[Keep your head up!]
(What about yesterday?
What about yesterday?)
(Those stars gonna rise (gonna rise) today! Today!)

[Keep your head up!]
What about all their joy?
What about yesterday?
(Gonna shine, must fly, gonna rise (gonna rise) today! Today!)

[Choir]
Keep your head up!
Those stars gonna rise (gonna rise) today! (Today)
Gonna shine, must fly, gonna rise (gonna rise) today! (Today)
(Oh~)

Keep your head up!

Keep your head up

Mantenha sua cabeça erguida

[1 Verso]
Ela enxuga as lágrimas,

[Hook]

[Verso 2]

[Ponte]
Todos dizem quanto o tempo aqui é pequeno,
Encontre a circunstância,

(Yeah, yeah!)

[Mantenha sua cabeça erguida!] Mantenha sua cabeça erguida para o céu,
Nós podemos apenas levantar dizer agora, (Oh )

[Ad-libs]
[Mantenha sua cabeça erguida!]
Como fica o passado ?
Como fica o passado ?
(Aquelas estrelas vão subir (vão subir) hoje! Hoje!)

[Mantenha sua cabeça erguida!]
Como fica nossa alegria?
Como fica o passado ? (Oh)
(vão brilhar, devem voar, vão subir (vão subir) hoje! Hoje!)

[Mantenha sua cabeça erguida!]
Como fica o passado?
Como fica o passado?
(Aquelas estrelas vão subir (vão subir) hoje! Hoje!)

[Mantenha sua cabeça erguida!]
Como fica nossa alegria?
Como fica o passado?
(Vão brilhar, devem voar, vão subir (vai subir) hoje! Hoje!)

[Coro]
Mantenha sua cabeça erguida!
Aquelas estrelas vão subir (vão subir) hoje! (Hoje)
Vão brilhar, devem voar, vão subir (vai subir) hoje! (Hoje)
(Oh)

Mantenha sua cabeça erguida!
Aquelas estrelas vão subir (vão subir) hoje! (Hoje)

How I Stay In Shape

All athletes need to stay in shape. This factor is often times what decides the outcome of many sports matches. Of all athletic endeavors, there are few that compare to the fight game in terms of how fit the practitioners must be. This is because fighters endure not only the physical exertion they put themselves through, but the physical toll their opponents put them through. Watch "The Thrilla' In Manila" and see what I'm talking about. I'm not a professional fighter, this does not interest me, but I am an instructor and I like to stay in excellent shape (think Bruce Lee). Over the years I have had many people ask me what I do to stay in such good condition. Here is a brief summery of how I stay in shape. My hope is that others will use this as a means to improve their own physical fitness and by doing so, not only increase their ability as an athlete (of any kind), but that they might also find the simple joy of living with good health, as I have.

First thing is first, and that's my diet. Christmas day of 2005 was a big change for me. I am well know for being a health fanatic and that was day one. I chose that day because it would be easy to remember and would help me keep track of time. I eat whole wheat and whole grains, fruits and vegetables, lean meats, lots of fresh dairy (I rarely eat cheese). That's it. I drink lots of juice, milk, and I enjoy healthy varieties of tea, which I usually make myself in a cast iron tea pot. Water is a given and I drink plenty of that every day. I don't touch anything with refined sugars, caffeine, enriched white flour, or trans fats. I stay away from fried foods also. I eat no fast foods except one or two items on the Chick Fill A menu (which I researched before ever eating them). I read the health label on anything and can name the calorie stats on most common packaged foods. When it comes to a typical day in the life of myself and what I eat, it goes something like this. I wake up and eat breakfast (most important meal of the day) and this nearly always means whole grain cereals with 2% milk or skim milk with some fruit, such as bananas. For lunch I may have a small bowl of whole wheat pasta and more fruits, grapes being a particular favorite. About two or three hours after lunch I usually eat a small meal consisting of fat free yogurt (tastes really good when you freeze it yourself) and more fruit. I often drink all natural tea during the day also. For dinner I might have a salad with chicken and steamed vegetables. This is not always the same, of course, but these are staples of my diet. I also love Japanese food, especially sushi, because fish is so good for you and it tastes awesome. This all natural food diet serves as fuel for the day and for my workout sessions. It also helps me maintain my weight and a good immune system.

Now let me take you through my daily workout. I workout from two to six hours per day, seven days a week. I like to begin my workout sessions with my endurance training. Beginning as a boxer before studying martial arts, my two favorite endurance exercises have always been running and skipping rope. There is no endurance exercise better than running. I put on some sweat clothes, lace up my workout shoes (a pair of pumas) and hit the road. I start out running slow for about one hundred yards before I kick it up. I always make sure to run and never jog. Jogging is terrible for your back, shins, and joints. You should sustain your running at six miles per hour or above. I generally do interval running, which is where I run for a while then explode for one hundred yards or so, then go back to regular running. This repeats until I am done. And when I say "explode", I mean run harder than you can imagine, focusing on the initial quickness of my take off. I usually run four miles. My minimum is two and my maximum (so far) is six. I also add shadow boxing and footwork drills into my running. Sometimes I turn around and run backwards or side ways as well. After I return from my run, I pick up my eight foot leather jump rope and get to work, no breaks taken. I work on all different foot work patterns. I like to cross the rope, double jump, and move all around the room, never staying in one spot. I do this for about ten minutes. Sometimes, if it's raining or I'm gone all day until night fall, I substitute a stationary bike for running. I spend about forty-five minutes on the bike, averaging about ten to fifteen miles and burning three to four hundred calories (of course, calories continue to burn after you stop).

Now that I'm nice and tired, I work on my flexibility exercises because my muscles are relaxed.
The exercises I perform are very simple. I begin with my feet one shoulder width apart and I bend down and touch the floor, holding it for a while. I repeat this once or twice. Then, I spread my feet apart a little more and touch the floor again, only this time, reaching back behind my feet. As I spread my feet out again, I put my head to the floor and hold it for a while. Now I begin focusing on going lower and lower. These stretches work the inner leg muscles such as the adductor group. I always keep my feet flat on the floor, bladed as martial artists do when throwing the side kick. After a while, I stand up and put my hands on my hips and roll them around. Now I'm loosening up the fasciae latae, the muscle on the side of my hip. From here I pull my foot up behind my leg to stretch the iliosolis muscle, the head of the quadricept. When I'm nice and relaxed, I put my fists on the floor and slide out into the side splits. I like to hold this one the longest and lie on my stomach, sliding forward then back to stretch each muscle from multiple angles. I also like to have a partner push down on the back of my hips for that extra stretch! All in all, I complete this set of flexibility exercises in about ten or fifteen minutes. My routine is essentially a slightly modified version of Bill "Superfoot" Wallace's stretching routine.

Now that I'm nice and limber, I like to begin by shadow kickboxing. I loosen up, work on footwork, and throw combinations. Then I practice my techniques on targets. I like to do most of this work on my heavy bag. I generally begin by working single techniques, then combinations. After that, I kickbox the heavy bag for five to eight, three minute rounds. I take thirty second breaks. After this, I go back to single techniques and combinations. While I'm working these techniques, I'm not just counting off numbers. I always work on specific principles such as my distancing, timing, recovery, defensive posture, power, economy of motion, footwork, visualization, etc. Then of course, there is sparring. I don't have sparring partners often and I beg and bribe as many people as I can to put on some gloves and head gear to work with me. Then I like to focus on foot work, angular attack drills, and other tactical drills.

After this, I like to take a break. I rest for two hours or so. I usually eat dinner here and relax. When I go back, I do the hard stuff.

This is my hour for strength training. I love weight lifting for strength training. there are many routines I have experimented with but my favorite is the good old circuit routine. This utilizes slightly lighter weights (still heavy though) and works like this: You have multiple stations or exercises, each working a different muscle group. You work each station for thirty seconds to a minute as fast as you can and move straight the next station with no break. You only have to do about seven to ten stations to completely wipe yourself out. I usually do fifteen and focus on compound exercises, working multiple muscles with each station. This not only builds strength and muscular endurance, but is one of the most effective fat burning exercises I've ever seen. This is because of the increased demand your body has for oxygen during this workout. Utilizing this method, I brought my weight down from one fifty to one twenty-nine in less than a year. My waste line dropped from around thirty inches to about twenty seven inches. This is the same routine Bruce Lee utilized during the making of Enter The Dragon. Watch the film and let the results speak for themselves! After doing my weight lifting, I work on my stomach. I do hundreds of repetitions of waste twists, leg raises, sit -ups, side bends, and butterfly crunches utilizing a medicine ball (I throw it with my feet back to my hands, then back to my feet).

This daily routine changes often but the exercises here are the real staples that I have found to be most effective for me personally. I always train as hard as I can, executing every movement with conviction. I always try to break my previous pain barrier. Like in a fight, you can never quit. Here are a few quotes I always recite to inspire myself to work harder, even when I don't feel like it.

"I worked out for four hours a day when I was competing, but I killed myself for those four hours"- Bill "Superfoot" Wallace

"A fight is won out there on the roads, alone in the gym, long before I dance under those lights" -Muhammad Ali

"If you can break the pain barrier then maybe, you might be a champion, but if you can't then forget it" -Arnold Schwarzenegger

"I never even think about quiting; next to dying, it's the last thing I'd ever do" -Joe Lewis

"When everyone else was eating I was running, when everyone else was sleeping, I was working out, that's how bad I wanted it" -Benny "the jet" Urquidez

"There are no limits. There are plateaus, but you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. If it kills you, it kills you. A man must constantly exceed his level" -Bruce Lee
