Where the dinosaurs still roam - from The Economist
JOSÉ SARNEY first ran for elected office over half a century ago. For the past 40 years he has controlled the fortunes of Maranhão, a state on the eastern fringe of Brazil’s Amazon region. He has represented it as federal deputy (twice), governor, and senator (twice). In 1985 he became the accidental, and undistinguished, president of Brazil when the man chosen for the job died before he could take it up. More recently he has been senator for the nearby and newly-created state of Amapá (twice). Time to retire, one might think.
Mr Sarney may look like a throwback to an era of semi-feudal politics that still prevails in corners of Brazil and holds the rest of it back. But with the tacit support of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the country’s left-of-centre president, he was this week chosen to preside over the Senate. It is the third time in his career that he has held this powerful job, which confers a degree of control over the government’s agenda and opportunities for patronage.
And so it will buttress Mr Sarney’s grip over Maranhão just when some locals hoped that this was beginning to crack. The centre of São Luís, the state capital, is decrepit. Some historic buildings are well cared for, such as the gleaming white Church of Our Lady of the Exile. But most are slowly crumbling in the hot, wet weather. The streets are pitted with potholes. An extraordinarily large number of people hang around in the hope of getting a tip in return for showing drivers where to park. In a city of 1m people, there were 38 murders last month alone.
But it is outside São Luís where Maranhão’s backwardness is most evident. In Sangue, a town in the interior, many people live in single-room houses, roofed with palm fronds, that lack both running water and electricity. Public transport is scarce. There is nothing much to buy or sell beyond bucketloads of bacuri, an Amazonian fruit. Educational achievement across the state is poor. Its infant mortality rate of 39 per thousand live births is 60% higher than the Brazilian average.
Dominance by a single man or family was not uncommon in Brazil’s north-east. But it is fading away. The Sarney clan is becoming unusual. Mr Sarney’s daughter, Roseana, has been Maranhão’s governor and currently represents it in the Senate. His son was a minister in Brazil’s previous government. Other relatives are scattered in positions of authority in Maranhão’s courts and the civil service. One of his lieutenants, Edison Lobão, is Lula’s minister for mines and energy. When he took the job, Mr Lobão’s seat in the national Senate went to his son; his wife sits in the lower house. All three of Maranhão’s senators answer to Mr Sarney, as do his fellow senators from Amapá.
This control is aided by the Sarney family’s ownership of Maranhão’s biggest media company. Its television station transmits the programmes of Globo, which produces Brazil’s most popular soap operas. These are interspersed with glowing news reports about the owner’s family. Controlling television and radio stations is particularly useful in rural Maranhão, where a majority of the electorate is illiterate and where the Sarneys now draw most of their support. “We are ruled by an electronic oligarchy,” laments Zé Reinaldo, a former state governor.
Even so, the family’s power may finally be waning. In 2006 Roseana Sarney lost the gubernatorial election to Jackson Lago. But Mr Lago and his deputy are currently being investigated for electoral crimes. If they are impeached, Ms Sarney will take over as governor once again. In last year’s municipal elections, Sarney candidates suffered some setbacks. “Sarney always says that Maranhão must vote for him so he can bring federal money from Brasília,” says Arleth Santos Borges of the Federal University of Maranhão. “In fact he needs power in Brasília to shore up power here.” That is what the Senate presidency brings him.
Meanwhile Maranhão continues in its sad way. “For fifteen years I have heard Sarney say he will bring development and tourism to Maranhão, but we still have one road in and one road out of this city,” says Hélio, a waiter in São Luís. “And they are both a mess.”

Que lavada!!!
Mais uma vez o Cruzeiro se deu bem em cima do Atlético MG. Ao embalo de uma torcida gigante e animada, o time invicto no campeonato, goleou o Atlético por 5 a 0 e reverteu a vantagem do rival que para ser campeão precisa devolver a goleada. A Discussão no STF
No dia 22 de Abril de 2009, no Supremo Tribunal Federal, ocorreu um fato inédito! Uma discussão entre o ministro Joaquim Barbosa e o Presidente do STF Gilmar Mendes, que foi apoiado pelos outos ministros.
O motivo de tanta discussão foi o relato dado por Joaquim Barbosa em publico, ele afirmou que o presidente de STF não tem capacidade para ocupar tal cargo. Joaquim não teve o apoio ao falar a verdade.
Oito dos onze ministros viram uma grande necessidade de realizar uma reunião de emergência, que foi convocada pelo vice-presidente do Supremo, César Peluso. Depois da reunião ele optou por um texto que prestigiasse o presidente.
"Os ministros do Supremo Tribunal Federal que subscreve essa nota, reunidos após sessão planetária de 22 de Abril de 2009, reafirmam a confiança e o respeito ao senhor ministro Gilmar Mendes na sua atuação institucional como presidente do Supremo, lamentando o episódio ocorrido nesta data".Dizia o texto.
Joaquim não se deu por achado e falou:"Não retiro o que disse".

Tribos Urbanas!!!
“Tribos” é o que diferencia os estilos de hoje em dia. Grupos de pessoas que se vestem de uma forma chamativa ou não, não ligam para quem olha e critica, pois tem certeza do que gostam.
Por diversos lugares, deparamos com os famosos: Emos, Clubers, otakus, metáleiros, punk’s, pagodeiros, trancers, regueiros e góticos.
Não faz a mínima idéia do que seja né? Vamos contar um pouco da história de alguns menos falados.
Gótico: Estilo surgido no final dos anos 70. Geralmente os adeptos vestem de uma forma soturna ou macabra, para lembrar os vampiros que fariam sucessos nos filmes da época. Suas vestias sempre tem um ar de era medieval e adereços bem luxuosos.
As principais bandas adeptas ao estilo são: The Cure, Lacrimas Profundare, Lacrimosa, Tristania, Lacuna Coil, Nightwish e a mais conhecida Evanescence.
Para quem curte uma musica melódica com um som mais sombrio, esta é uma boa opção, “ouvir Evanescence’’.
Mas se não gostou, fique a vontade para conhecer outros estilos que vamos falar...

Vício que mata!
O Brasil é o segundo maior produtor de tabaco, fica somente atrás da China. Hoje em dia, virou "moda" a prática de fumar, sejam crianças, jovens, adultos ou idosos.

Torcicolo? Ninguém merece!
Aquela dor chata no pescoço é caracterizada pelo enrijecimento dos músculos do pescoço, o problema limita os movimentos da cabeça e muitas vezes de toda a região dorsal. O torcicolo pode ocorrer através de uma noite dormida em uma posição inadequada, por um forte estresse ou devido a um movimento brusco da região. Além disso, essa dor chatinha pode ser sintoma de alguma doença como hipertiroidismo, tumor de pescoço ou doenças respiratórias crônicas, como a bronquite e a asma.
Uma das formas de evitar o problema é dormir na posição adequada, além dos cuidados com a postura e prática de alongamentos. Ah! Já ia me esquecendo: A melhor posição para dormir é a de lado porque evita problemas na coluna e também o torcicolo.

TWILIGHT - A WORLDWIDE SUCCESS
Twilight is a vampire-romance novel written by Stephenie Meyer. It was originally published in 2005. It is the first book of the Twilight series, and introduces seventeen-year-old Isabella "Bella" Swan who moves from Phoenix, Arizona, to Forks, Washington, and finds her life in danger when she falls in love with a vampire, Edward Cullen.
Isabella "Bella" Swan moves from sunny Phoenix to rainy Forks to live with her father, Charlie, while HER mother, Renée, travels with HER new husband, Phil Dwyer, a baseball player. Bella attracts much attention at her new school and is quickly befriended by several students. Much to her dismay, several boys compete for shy Bella's attention.
When Bella is seated next to Edward Cullen in class on her first day of school, Edward seems utterly repulsed by her. However, over the next few days Edward warms up to her, and their relationship reaches a climax when Bella is nearly run over by a fellow classmate's van in the school parking lot. Seemingly defying the laws of physics, Edward saves her life when he instantaneously appears next to her and stops the van with his bare hands.
Over time, Edward and Bella fall in love. Their relationship becomes a chaos when another vampire arrives in Forks. James, a tracker vampire who is intrigued by the Cullens' relationship with a human, wants to hunt Bella for sport. The Cullens attempt to distract the tracker by splitting up Bella and Edward, and Bella is sent to hide in a hotel in Phoenix. There, Bella receives a phone call from James, who claims he is holding her mother captive. When Bella surrenders herself, James attacks her, but Edward, along with the other Cullens, rescues Bella and kills James. Once they realize that James has bitten Bella's hand, Edward sucks the venom from her system before it can spread and transform her into a vampire, and she is then sent to a hospital. When Bella and Edward return to Forks, they attend their school prom and Bella expresses her desire to become a vampire, which Edward refuses.

SYLVAN - PROG ROCK MADE IN GERMANY
Sylvan is a great progressive rock band from Germany. Officially, the band began playing in 1998 as Sylvan but they have been together since 1990 playing hard rock at that time. In fact, the music of the band is progressive rock with some hard rock moments, and some melodic pop-rock elements, probably lingering from earlier in their career. Other apparent influences include psychedelic rock, a little Pink Floyd, Genesis and (a more recent influence) Dream Theater.

Lágrimas de Sangue. "Quando a Inocência é Roubada"
Quando os pais pensam que seus filhos estão seguros dentro de casa, estão muito enganados.
Na maioria das vezes, as crianças são molestadas dentro de suas próprias casas, por pessoas bem próximas, como pais, padrastos, irmãos mais velhos, tios, primos, amigos etc. Conquistada a confiança, as crianças são abusadas e estupradas sem nem saberem o que estão fazendo. Com sua inocência roubada, ficam apenas traumas, cicatrizes no coração e na alma. Com isso, tornam-se adolescentes problemáticas, rebeldes, com dificuldades em se relacionar com as outras pessoas e nunca mais são os mesmos.
"O que eu não consigo entender é como um pai que cria seu filho a vida inteira sangue do seu sangue, tem coragem de abusar e tirar a inicência de seu próprio filho."
Andamos pelas ruas com medo de algum tipo de ataque e fazemos o possível para nos proteger, mas como nos proteger dentro de casa? E o pior, de pessoa que amamos!?!?

O filme jogos mortais é uma série de torturas feitas por psicopatas que colocam as personagens no jogo com condições quase impossiveis, como colocar a chave de liberdade dentro do olho da personagem, deixá-la em cima de cubos de gelo com uma corda enrolada no pescoço, cerrar os pés para se livrarem de correntes que os prendem. E tudo isso com um determinado tempo, que se esgotar causará a morte dos participantes.
"Em minha opinião, o filme é bem elaborado, os efeitos especiais muito bem preparados. Estou à espera da versão VI!"

Andrew Tyler Hansbrough (born November 3, 1985 in Columbia, Missouri) is an American collegiate basketball player for the North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball team. Hansbrough was a unanimous selection for the 2006, 2007, and 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference All Conference Team, 2006 ACC Freshman of the Year, and 2008 ACC Conference Player of the Year. In 2008, Hansbrough swept all major individual honors in men's college basketball. For a North Carolina men's player to have his jersey retired, he must win at least one of six national player of the year awards: the Associated Press, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, the National Association of Basketball Coaches, Sporting News, the Naismith Award and the Wooden Award, and wait until his class has graduated. Since Hansbrough won all six, and returned for his senior season, he will have his number 50 retired when he graduates from North Carolina in 2009. Hansbrough is the son of Tami Wheat and Dr. Gene Hansbrough and brother of former Mississippi State University and future Notre Dame player Ben Hansbrough. NBA scouts have so far admitted that it is difficult to predict exactly when in the draft Hansbrough will be selected.

Com quase uma hora e trinta minutos de duração, Dragon Ball Evolution sai das páginas das histórias e dá as caras na telona. A história não mudou muito, Goku acredita ser um humano, até seu avô morrer e confundir tudo em sua cabeça. O filme é bem legal, os efeitos, o enredo, mas a produção deixou muito a desejar na caracterização das personagens!

O elenco conta com “carinhas novas” (literalmente falando): Justin Chatwin, James Marters, Jamie Chung, Emmie Rossum, Eriko Tamura e Joon Park são atores e atrizes que passam por adolescentes.Então é isso, não vai ser eu que vou ficar aqui lhe falando para assistir o filme e reparar os defeitos que são muitos; “também porque esse não é um dos meus animes preferidos!” O gênero do filme é ação e a classificação é livre.

Atualmente, vivemos em um mundo onde não podemos nos sentir seguros. Normalmente, nos sentimos ameaçados pelos bandidos, assassinos e etc... O que deveria ser para nos proteger, hoje, virou uma ameaça tanto quanto os traficantes.
“Acredito que os policiais foram treinados e preparados para defender os cidadãos da violência, mas será que estes policiais estão sendo bem preparados para esta responsabilidade?” Pois se eles agora matam inocentes, como uma criança de três anos, no Rio de Janeiro, que foi friamente assassinada com três tiros, disparados pelo Cabo Willian de Paula e o Soldado Elias de Costa Neto que foram afastados da corporação.
Agora, fica a pergunta, se os policiais são treinados para nos proteger, quem vai nos proteger dos Assassinos Fardados?

He was drafted 10th overall by the Lakers in 2005. Bynum became the youngest player ever to play an NBA game later that year, breaking Jermaine O'Neal's record. Amidst the 2007–08 season, he suffered an injury on his left kneecap, and eventually missed the rest of the season and all of the playoffs. He made a successful return at the beginning of the 2008–09 season. In January of 2009, however, he suffered another injury, this time to his right knee. Andrew Bynum set a new career high in scoring with 42 points to go along with 15 rebounds, 8 offensive and 3 blocked shots on January 21, 2009 against the Los Angeles Clippers. Also, on back to back game versus the Washington Wizards he scored 23 points to go along with 14 rebounds, 4 offensive on January 22, 2009. While playing against the Memphis Grizzlies on January 31, 2009, Kobe Bryant had an off balanced shot, fell and collided with Bynum's right knee, resulting in a right knee sprain. His return date is unknown. On February 2, 2009 it was revealed that Andrew Bynum had suffered a torn MCL in his right knee and will be out 8-12 weeks. This is the second straight year that Bynum has suffered a knee injury against the Memphis Grizzlies. This could potentially place Bynum out for the remainder of the NBA's regular season as well as the start of the playoffs. Bynum had averaged 26 points and 14 rebounds in his previous five games, posting five straight double-doubles for the first time in his career.
